Kenny was born in 1937 in Houston, Texas. The king of
the mid 70's country. Kenny did more than any other
singer of his generation. Kenny was born to relative
poverty. The lingering effects of the depression plus
his father's alcoholism and thus unreliability as a
worker joined to make the family's life even worse.
He had his first exposure to music in the church
choir and than took up the guitar, teaching himself
to play chords. In high-school Kenny formed "The
Scholars" a rock-a-billy outfit and signed as a
soloist with the local Carlton Label. His first album
recorded in 1959 was called "One Dozen Soldiers".
Along with fellow minstrel Mike Settle he formed the
folk-tinged pop vocal group "The First Edition".
Scoring a major hit with the 1967's "Just Dropped in
To See What Condition My Condition Was In". Followed
by more hits such as "Ruby" and "Reuben James". 1977
brought him the monster "Lucille". In 1978 he recorded
a duet with Dottie West called "Every Time Two Collide".
Later that same year he scored with his best loved
country flavored song "The Gambler".
Kenny 's career veered into mainstream mush in 1979
with hits like "You Decorated My Life", and a duet
with Kim Carnes "Don't Fall in Love With a Dreamer".
And his breathy reading of Lionel Richie's "Lady".
Establishing him firmly as a main stream pop star....
This is just another of Barry's characters. Watch as
he prepares and changes in appearance right in front
of the audience. You will be amazed at the change that
happens right before your very own eyes.
